Benefit Brow Bar, Ted Baker and Winning at Internet Shopping!

Hey Kittens!

Hope you are all well!

Last week as one of my reward for being a good girl in my weight loss quest, I treated myself to a Brow wax/shape at Benefit at Myer Melbourne.

I had been there before as reviewed here, but I figured, hmm, why not review it again! haha.

I went to the city on Thursday afternoon when I had been let out of jail work early. I have been on the hunt for this GORGEOUS Ted Baker make up bag I spotted while browsing some UK blogs... As I approached the city I thought hey! My brows are unruly, why not get the hair ripped out with hot wax as a treat for my weight loss?! haha. Yes, a treat.

I asked the bene-babe (or whatever they refer themselves as) to take a pic of my scary looking eyebrows.
She took the worst pic ever!

The lighting in Myer is scary. I am an oil slick!! And I swear I am not usually that oily looking.

I had to crop the pic as I was mid-sentence when she took the photo... Horrendous!

GAH! Unruly Brows!!! Oil Slick City!!

And after she ripped the hairs out and then filled my brows in... This was the result...

Note my shifty eye.

I think she used too dark a brow powder on me... I have been using the lighter shade of brown myself and it has been much less 'Hey! LOOK! Look at me! I fill in my brows!'

Also in that first "after" pic, can you see the patchy foundation job above my eyebrow ? I got offered a 10 minute makeover, which I totally accepted but ew to the foundation. It looks yellow... And when I got home it looked like I was wearing a mask. There was a very noticeable jaw line. Tsk Tsk. Bad bene-babe!

The bene-babe also used the posie tint on me. I loved it! I had never given it a second look... But the price is outrageous .. It was $50 something dollars. After you have shopped in the US you just can't bring yourself to spend that kind of monies!

That was until she showed me this cute little set...

Yes, yes I am feeling Dandy!

I was ainstantly sold on the adorable-ness of the minis. Then I was told it was on sale as well! I can't remember how much it is usually, but I only paid $40! Pretty good, I reckon!

It comes with a mini posie tint, a mini highbeam, a lip gloss and a blush! Perfect way to test out some items!! I haven't got any of these!

Please look at the cuteness!

So, that was a success... Then I wandered over to David Jones to find my wash bag!

SOLD OUT! &*%^%#$(*^^%#

I noticed there was a cute grey one and was úhmming'and áhhing' over it. It isn't exactly what I want, but, hmmm. Then I noticed it had these weird pink marks on it- like where something else had rubbed against it (probably the hot pink wash bag I actually wanted!)... I thought hmmmm, maybe I can get a discount. *cheesy grin*

I finally found a salesperson, 20 minutes later... and asked if they had any stock of my HOT PINK bag and she said everything they have is on the floor- *sad face*... I asked if she could check another store... Apparently not. I don't believe that, she just didn't want to do it. She was roughly 50 years old and more interested in talking to her co-workers than helping out a customer. That's Aussie retail for you! And they wonder why we shop overseas online... I showed her the marks on the grey one and was offered 20% off. I took it.

This isn't mine, obviously...  FYI, the pink marks are near the zipper and barely noticeable

I still wanted the pink one. In pure desperation, I had also now called DJs at Chaddy and Southland- but still no dice. I also called the Ted Baker store, but there was no answer.

On Sunday I went into the city again- this time with my little nephew- I needed a DAISO fix. So, I dragged him along to the actual Ted Baker store (located in Little Collins) but nope, no stock. I also tried DJs again,, just in case, but nope. haha. Yes, I was desperate.

I eventually gave in and decided to buy it online with DJs. I didn't want to, purely due to the $10 postage (yes, I am that tight- especially after all my efforts thus far)... but after a little bit of web sleuthing I found myself a code for 10% off... Unfortunately it didn't cover the shipping. Nuts.

Then I noticed you get FREE shipping if you spent over $50- of course the bag was $49.95 (can you believe it?!). So, I tried to find the cheapest thing I sorta kinda wanted... and nearly settled on an OPI nail file for $3.95, but honestly... I just don't need one.

I finally settled on a small bottle of Kiehls Creme de Corps for $15... Which, in the end, was essentially free! With my 10% discount and now the free shipping it came out the same as if I hadn't bought the creme at all! Muhahahahaha! I won that round DJs! Suckers!!

So, this beautiful pink bag is on it's way to me!!!! Yay!!! I bought it yesterday afternoon and got a dispatch notice this morning! Yay!

Look at that pink!!! I think mine is the smaller version  Same as the grey. But it is a great size! I have all my essentials in the grey now and there is room for more!

* My 5 week weigh in is tomorrow!

Eyelash Extensions

On a much lighter note compared to my most recent posts... On Saturday I had an appointment to get eyelash extensions 'implanted". I could choose from Synthetic, Silk or Mink. I wanted Mink as I had heard that's what Kim Kardashian has (lame. hehe).

The therapist basically told me that because I had never had extensions before the mink wouldn't suitable- some baloney about me "maybe" having a reaction- even though I said I never get allergic reactions. In the end I got Silk extensions- I didn't have a choice. I'm very happy with them. I love not having to apply mascara...

But... they do feel "fake." I would guess that the Mink lashes would feel nicer- softer. So I am bummed she wouldn't give me the mink... and my guess is that she chose not to because mink is probably more expensive than the silk. Grr.

Also, the appointment was a mess! Firstly I had to wait 30 mins as she was running behind... Then, somehow, she had double booked and I had to wait another 15 mins. Then halfway through- ie: one eye down- she had to leave me because again she had been double booked. Hmm. She made it up to me by giving me an eyebrow threading on the house. I would have LOVED that had I a) not just had my brows done at Benefit Brow Bar the night before in prep for the lashes and if b) she asked me how I actually liked my brows. She just went mental on them! I was laying there thinking... Sweet Jesus, do I have any brows left?! It felt like she was rolling that thread like nobody's business... And me, being chicken licken, was laying there in silence, quietly hoping 'it'll be okay, it'll be okay'... Luckily it was okay. Definitely thinner than I would like though.

This was a groupon coupon thing. $49 for a full set + one refill. Considering it took nearly 2 hours (including all the mucking about), the price is pretty reasonable. And they do look nice. I don't think I would pay $180 for them though.

I asked for them to be "dramatic"... but no one has noticed *sad face*

I did have long lashes anyway... but still... I was going for the Amber Dempsey look (from The Simpsons, when Lisa entered the Beauty pageant... Only like my fave Simpsons ep ever!)

This is me right after the application. How's my puffy face? haha. That's what happens when I've been laying down for 2 hours... with not a scrap of make-up on.

That twinkle in my eye is always there, I swear :)
Keeping them dry for 24 hours was sooooo hard. I even had to be careful while watching TV- as I tend to get teary over ads and whatnot (lolz). Not rubbing my eyes is a struggle too... Only because I'm not allowed to, it makes me want to do it so bad!! Washing my face is also an issue and I try not to get them too involved in the shower. I like my showers HOT but I fear the steam may cause the glue to disintegrate... But so far so good and we're on day 4.

I'll update on how it goes.

So far I have lost one eyelash... it was right on the outer corner and I think it was actually too far on to the edge... I noticed the other one eye was starting to look weird- it was nearly in my eye... so I pulled it off. It hurt. So... I wont be doing that again. So, two lashes down (but one self inflicted).

♡ other random updates ♡ and help with hair needed!!

I did in fact get brow-wowed. They are thinner this time, I guess I didn’t vocalise what I wanted enough. I didn’t have to wait as long as the last time, which was nice. I made it to Myer Melbourne from Chapel Street in half an hour on Public Transport during peak hour! Impressed? I am. What I wasn’t impressed about was the Sales Assistant who touched up my brow area, after the wax and her over-the-top-eager to sell manner. I merely asked what it was the she was putting on me, it was a pressed powder but before she even answered she asked if she should put it on my bill? Um, no. Firstly it was the wrong colour and secondly, it was the wrong colour. She couldn’t even match my colour right! I was like heck no am I trusting you to help me. Way too eager to just get me to buy it… Maybe actually try and sell me something I would want. The brow artist (yes) was super nice and my brows do look nice, I think/hope.

Please excuse that rogue hair (from my head that is, there's plenty of brow rogues there!)

Sorry for the shoddy shot, but I took this at the Benefit Counter.

Meet Shirley and Help me with my hair, pleeease!!

Thoughts on Benefit Brow Bar...

Alrighty... So, I totally didn't update in a timely fashion at all... But considering I confessed to being the Queen of Procrastination, it isn't all that surprising! Hehe.

Anyhoo, without any further ado, I shall share my thoughts...

This is what I had to say on the Vogue forum a few days after my appointment...

I got my eyebrows done at the Benefit  Brow Bar at Myer Melbourne on Friday (15th July, 2011).

I was a  little shirty that I had to wait quite a while (seeing as I had  made an  appointment), and it wasn't until I said I was leaving that they  said I  was next. There were heaps of walk-ins, so it looked like tonnes  of  people were waiting- I had no idea where I was in the queue.

Aside  from that, I really enjoyed it... I barely felt the waxing part  and  the SA who taught me how to fill in my brows was very patient with   me... and amazingly enough I was able to re-create the look at home!   *gasp*

I’m going to put my before and after pics up on my blog.

P.S-  trimming of the eyebrow hair was weird- I have never had that done  before, and now if I touch my brows they feel funny.

Picture time!

Word of warning... Prior to my appointment, I had been "growing" out my brows for Donkey's Years, so I got my mum to capture the state they were in while we were waiting! You have been warned!

Ouch! Damn you Myer and your super harsh lighting!

The unruliness that was!

Ahhhh much better!

Loving the shape!

Check out that fullness!

Seeing as my before pic is an example of crazy lady brows at their craziest, it's hard for me to convey the fact that the "tail" of my brow is never a nice line like it is in my after pics, even if I get them professionally done.. They tend to just taper off in to a bit of nothing.

Aside from the waiting issue, I really loved the results! I would be more than happy to get my brows done at Benefit again, and again and again.

I actually haven't touched my brows since that appointment waaay back on July 15th- mostly because I didn't want to stuff up the shape with wayward tweezing and also the fact that I had all intentions of getting them done again. Well, let's just say, 11 weeks later (c'mon, WTF?! Queen of Procrastination strikes again!),  I am, yet again, in desperate need and my brows are officially in crazy lady territory again! My closest shopping Centre is Southland, and I don't believe there is a Brow Bar there. No fair! *stamps feet*

I either have to move my tush and get to the Myer Melbourne Brow Bar or go elsewhere... eep.
